Letter from the Director (2024/2025)
We are Challenger Sports, entering our 33rd year: How We Got Here
Looking back to the 1990s
We worked with the Freehold Township Little League to bring us here (at Liberty Oak Park) starting with Challenger Baseball: Player athletes, buddies, coaches, Alan Goldstein and Tom Saporita had a vision.
Then, with the support of Freehold Township Recreation, Alan and Tom added Challenger soccer and basketball to the mix as our athletes craved more activity, fun and friendships.
More than three decades later, here we are. Our program is alive and well and thriving! Our athletes are hitting the ball out of the park, kicking goals, swishing baskets and developing life- long skills. Sighing, sweating, laughing and, dare I say it, growing up…
Alan and Tom have positioned us to be in a great place. Thank you Alan and Tom.
The success of our Challenger program continues because of the support of Freehold Township and The Little League. Because of our great volunteer coaches, great volunteer buddies and great volunteer administrators and parents. And because of the determination, enthusiasm and love that we get from our player athletes.
With everyone’s continued support, we will take the Challenger Sports program forward for our 33rd year in 2025 as our kids continue to develop their skills while enjoying our great program. It is my absolute pleasure to continue to administer the program for our great athletes!
