Challenger Buddy Volunteers
Everyone involved in Freehold Area Challenger Sports is a volunteer supporting our player athletes. Freehold Challenger Sports relies on volunteer buddies in the Freehold N.J. area to assist our athletes (of all ages) with special needs to play various sports during our year-round, Sunday morning, sports program. Our Challenger sports year coincides with much of the school year and includes: Challenger Soccer (Sept.-Nov.), Challenger Basketball (Jan.-March) and Challenger Baseball (April-June). All sports games run roughly an hour to an hour and a half of playtime.
What makes a great Challenger buddy?
A buddy is someone who is mature, flexible and patient. Buddies will assist a player to learn, interact and cooperate with their peers on the team. They will assist the coaches and lend a supportive helping-hand to their paired player. A buddy, for example, is someone who helps a player to hold a bat, practices on how to dribble, encourages the scoring of a goal or just facilitates gameplay while having fun! A buddy is typically someone in 9th-12th grade (but they could be younger if mature and/or have prior experience) who is willing to participate in one to three sports (hopefully all three sports which helps keep the consistency and connection going). Buddies can get volunteer service credit upon request.
If anyone is interested in becoming a Challenger buddy or would like more program information please call Lloyd at 732-972-3892.
Please consider being part of this wonderful organization which has made a tremendous difference in so many people's lives over the last 30+ years!
